Project Overview

Precise color matching across every wood surface.

The Madrona Project required precise color matching across multiple wood elements, including flooring and custom cabinetry built from reclaimed mixed-species lumber.

We developed a custom stain that balanced variations in grain and tone, allowing the floors and cabinets to visually connect as one cohesive system. Instead of highlighting differences between materials, the final finish created a consistent, natural look throughout the space.

The result is a warm, unified interior where flooring and woodwork feel intentionally designed together — not installed separately.

Scope of Work

What we built for this project

01

Custom Stain Development

A bespoke stain formula developed to unify the tone across reclaimed mixed-species lumber, flooring, and cabinetry surfaces.

02

Hardwood Flooring

Custom-stained hardwood floors installed throughout the home, selected and finished to anchor the overall wood palette.

03

Kitchen Cabinetry

Custom cabinetry and kitchen island built and finished to match the flooring — creating visual continuity between surfaces.

04

Color Matching & Integration

Precise grain and tone balancing across all wood elements, ensuring the finished interior reads as one intentional system.

Challenge

Matching tone across mixed-species reclaimed wood.

Reclaimed mixed-species lumber presents natural variation in grain, porosity, and base tone. When flooring and cabinetry are built from different wood sources, even a standard stain can read differently on each surface — making the interior feel patchwork rather than planned.

Solution

A custom stain that works with the variation.

Rather than fighting the wood's natural differences, we developed a custom stain formula that balanced the variation — bringing all surfaces into a shared tone family while preserving the natural grain character. The result feels warm, intentional, and cohesive.

Result

A unified wood interior where every surface feels connected.

The Madrona Project demonstrates how careful stain development and material planning can bring cohesion to a complex interior. Floors, cabinetry, and architectural wood details all share the same visual language — warm, natural, and built to last.
